Comfy and Clunky

Shirt (this one is from Armani but it's pretty basic so you can get it anywhere). Hat. Leggings (similar). Sneakers. Sunglasses (mine are lighter).

Today, I saw Me Before You with my mom and aunt and to be honest, it wasn't as great as I thought it would be, but if you wanna see it, don't let me stop you! Since I knew I'd be spending my day shopping at Target and sitting in a movie theatre, I decided that it would be best to dress comfortably. Since it was also warm but relatively breezy, I knew that I would be most comfortable wearing pants and a long-sleeved shirt.

This shirt is one of the most comfortable things I own. It's like a double-hand-me-down: my cousin's husband didn't like it anymore so he gave it to her, and she gave it to me! It's perfect to wear as a pajama shirt and a normal shirt: Usually, if I wear this shirt during the day, I'll wear it to sleep too. I also wear this over my cheerleading uniform when I'm running through the cold to a different building before our games! It's light, but it keeps me covered, and it's super comfy. Versatility, my number one love.

Next, I decided to wear my lighter leggings even though they're ripping between the thighs! I really needed to get new ones. They look and felt great with this shirt! I threw on my white Converse to match my shirt and my Emerson Dad hat since I was having a terrible hair day. I was super comfortable no matter what I was doing, and I felt adorable. I kept makeup simple as well as my jewelry!

Aghh! My mirror's getting dirty again!

I definitely want to start getting a bit more risky with my looks. Whenever I try something new, I almost always end up loving it. I guess what’s stopping me is that most of my clothes are autumn-y, so that’s when I feel most comfortable taking risks. Maybe playing around a little more with my makeup would be good since I’ve definitely been enjoying that lately.

Denim Vest (similar). Crop Top (similar). Skirt (similar). Sneakers

As you guys can see, I have not been posting on The Clunkster for the past couple of days. This is because of the recent events in Orlando that have left me saddened, shocked, and speechless. I honestly have nothing to say, mostly because everything has already been said. This blog is a source of comfort for me, just as Pulse was a safe space for those in Orlando and music was for Christina Grimmie. I did not feel comfortable participating in this joy and comfort if 50+ lives were cut short because they were enjoying themselves, especially knowing that they will never be able to participate in this joy again, as well as those who no longer feel safe in light of these events.

As a college student who loves to go to parties, I've always struggled with finding the best outfit to go out in. I want to look cute, but I also want places to put my keys, ID, money, etc. I want to make sure that I'm warm enough to ride the T to the party without a jacket that I have to put down at the party, but cool enough that I can be in a crowded room full of drunk students and not sweat my makeup off. Of course, while I'm home and not going to parties, I found that outfit.

This began as most of my other outfits begin: I pulled this denim vest out of my closet and said, "Wow, I've only worn this once!" I don't even think I brought it to school. That's going to change now! I've always loved the look of denim and black, so I paired it with this cute skirt. I love it because it's comfortable, a little cheeky,

and makes my butt look amazing. I usually pair this with a crop top with cap sleeves, but I was feeling my tank top-y crop top with cutouts on the sides. It makes the look flirty and cute even if I decide to take my vest off.

I think that's the best way to describe this look: flirty. I'm a huge flirt (even if I'm not trying to be!), so this look is totally me. And who doesn't love sneakers with a skirt or dress?

I kept makeup neutral (which I usually do when I party because knowing me I WILL mess it up), as well as jewelry. I wore my black Pura Vida (which I've basically been wearing every day) and a light blue one that matches the denim perfectly

So, hopefully, I'll be wearing this outfit to my next party. I'll let you guys know how it goes!

What Season is It?

Shirt (similar). Jeans. Boots (no longer being sold at Call It Spring. NOOOOOO!!!).

This is an outfit that I usually wear in the fall or spring, but it's definitely one of my favorites! Maybe because it incorporates some of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe. I really love fall fashion, and as much as I love the summer season, I like to pretend it's autumn every now and then.

Peplum shirts look great on people who like to accentuate their waists, like me! I've said in the past that I like wearing high-waisted flare skirts because they make my waist look smaller and my hips look more defined as opposed to bigger. As always, that's my personal opinion, so do whatever the hell you want! This shirt is great because I can wear it casually with some shorts or with a blazer and nice pants for a ~professional~ event. I feel like I always say I love things because they're versatile.

I love these jeans mostly because they're a dark wash. For some reason, I think lighter washes just look sloppier in certain situations. I also love how tight they are. They hug my curves perfectly! On top of that, they're skinny, so they're perfect for tucking into boots!

These boots are my all-time favorite shoes in the world ever. No exaggeration. They're basically my dream shoes. I was walking in the mall with my mom one day like two years ago and I was describing to her the type of boots I wanted for Christmas. We passed Call It Spring and I saw these in the window. I immediately pulled her into the store screaming "THESE! THESE! THESE ARE THE ONES!" Needless to say, I got some really great Christmas gifts that year.

I wear these boots basically whenever I can. I'm technically not supposed to be wearing heels because I have knee problems, but I make an exception for these because they're just so beautiful. They just take it to the next level. I could honestly talk about how much I love these shoes for hours but I won't waste your time.

I kept jewelry usual, and played with my makeup! I added some nude eyeshadow and I was going to leave it, but then I saw a light brown in the palette that I thought would look cute on my crease (this is what happens when I watch too many makeup tutorials in one night). I added it and it surprisingly looked good! I added some of the original nude color under my eyebrow and in my inner eyes to act as a ~highlight~ (look! I'm getting more comfortable with makeup jargon!). Even though I'm only going to work tomorrow, I'm so tempted to do this again. I kinda wanna look like this every day.

So, if you're missing style from a different season and you know your body won't be seriously impacted by the weather if you dress in that season, do it! Why not? We know I'm all about not playing by the rules.

Casual and Dorky

Though I love dressing up, I also love staying casual. This was one of those days. I had a busy day ahead of me (one which included working out!) so I needed to wear lighter clothes. I chose these blue shorts I got a little while ago, but haven't worn out of my house yet. They're super light and comfortable. They feel like Soffee shorts (which I lived in when I was a kid) but look much cuter.

Then, I decided on a white T shirt, but it was a bit too long to wear with the shorts. Instead of changing my shorts, I just tucked the shirt in! If you've been keeping up with The Clunkster lately, you'll notice that I've been tucking things in a lot lately. I always have, but I definitely have been more than usual, and I'm not sure why. Most of the time, tucking in a shirt makes the look much cleaner, but in some instances, like this one, tucking the shirt in just makes things a bit ~different~. I'm not really sure what it is, but I like it, so I'm going to keep doing it. Fun fact for short girls who aspire to be taller, tucking in your shirt will make your legs look longer since your hips look higher.

I put on my white Converse to go with my shirt, my normal jewelry, a my black and blue Pura Vidas, and my round sunglasses. I feel like I've been wearing them all the time lately. One of my best summer purchases by far! I also straightened my hair, which kept things looking casual instead of sloppy.

I also ditched the makeup! I knew that I would be sweating, and I just didn't want to be bothered, to be honest. Besides, there's no rule that says I need to wear makeup every day (and if there was one, you know I'd be breaking it because I break every other one). I think it gives the look something more!

Overall, I guess there's not much to say about this look other than that it's odd and for some reason I love it! Maybe that's why. I feel like there's something there. I guess I'll need to wear this outfit more to figure out what it is!

Stay Clunky!

Flannel is no longer being sold at Eddie Bauer :(

Dress (no longer being sold at Forever 21). Shoes (similar). Lipgloss.

Tonight, I went to a ~nice~ restaurant to celebrate my uncle's 50th birthday. Once again, I decided to wear something that I've never worn before! I think I've previously explained that my older cousins give me lots of hand-me-downs, and this dress is one of them. I decided that the perky colors made a gloomy weather day much brighter. I also thought that the dress was just nice enough to be worn at a restaurant for a special occasion, but casual enough that I wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb in my family, who enjoys dressing down.

Even though I never put them in my photos, I always wear shorts under my skirts and dresses so I know that I'm covered if I encounter a gust of wind or a wardrobe malfunction. They're not necessary shorts; they're more like Spanx. Some call them lollipops or bloomers. I got mine from when I was a cheerleader in elementary school, and I have some colorful ones from college cheer that you can find here if you're curious.

I slid on my cute hand-me-down sandals that I think matched well! Since they're clear, they were neutral enough, but they had gems on them to make them more ~dressy~. My bright yellow toenails were showing (as were my lime green ring fingers!), so I decided to add yet another pastel and go with my pink lipgloss, which always seems to make me want to duckface in photos! My hair was straight and I left my makeup relatively natural (except I went crazy with my eyelashes again, which I haven't done in a while!).

As I was leaving though, I realized that the restaurant would be cold, and I was wearing a strapless dress. For some reason, I thought that wearing my dad's flannel would be cute. I threw it on, not thinking it would look good, but I actually really loved it! It dressed my look down a bit, but I still fit in. And I had pockets! I love this flannel because it's solid black, so it's a bit more classy than the usual plaid flannel. I plan on wearing this more as well.

Jewelry was usual, and I wore my silver beaded and blue Pura Vidas. On a side note, did you know that Pura Vida sells adorable towels now?! Just a reminder, if you buy a towel (or anything on the website), I can hook you up with a 20% discount when you use my code, KristenBruck20.

I haven't been super fancy in a while, so today was a really nice change! I felt pretty and happy.
