The Clunkster

Beach Bitch

KristenComment

Today, I went to the gym and then stayed in my bathrobe forever and ever. A better part of the day was suitable for the beach, so I decided to put together this little look for a beach day, wet hair included.

I completely disregarded shoes since who wears shoes to the beach? Losers. My bralette is meant to be kind of a bikini top, but I actually like it just as the bralette. I’ve been dying to wear it by itself!

Skirts are perfect for the beach because they’re flouncy and easily removable. This skirt was perfect! I paired my bralette and skirt with my cute kimono that had both black and white in it. I thought the colors looked awesome together. I added my rounded sunglasses since the rest of this look is pretty retro.

No jewelry or makeup, since, like I said, beach. I love looking cute for the beach, but makeup and jewelry just distract me. Clunk that.

Here’s to hoping it’s nice enough wherever you are to take a jump in the ocean! I watched Lilo & Stitch today, so I kind of embraced that vibe, right?

Black and White

Outfit of the Day, StyleKristenComment

Today’s look is simply cute. I went to Manhattan yet again, and since I knew I would be walking around in the heat all day, I wanted to keep things light. I wore my black high-waisted shorts and my bralette! Sometimes I like wearing bralettes and bandeaus in the heat because bras can get super sweaty.

It’s also helpful to wear bralettes/bandeaus under flowy tops like this one, which I just got from my cousin. I don’t know if you guys can tell, but it’s a crop top that's long and flowy on the sides. So, when it got windy, my shirt was flying up. I’d personally rather be wearing something pretty on my boobs if I accidentally flash someone, which happened several times while waiting for the train.

I was between black and white Converse on this one, as usual, but I decided to go with black since the stripes of my top were more off-white and it looked kind of weird with my white shoes, even if they are super dirty. I’m happy with the way everything looked!

My hair was being itself, and I kept my jewelry normal. My makeup was normal, but I brought back my vamp lip! I haven’t worn lipstick in a while and I missed it (I was also trying to test out a product I’ll be reviewing soon, so stay tuned for that!). My lips didn’t melt in the heat because of my lovely setting spray that I went off about yesterday.

I would definitely wear this outfit again, but I would experiment with different color shorts. Black and white are cool because they’re neutral, so they can pretty much go with anything. Maybe I’ll get super bright. You guys will have to keep reading to find out...

An Ode to My Setting Spray

Beauty, Beauty Review, Cruelty-FreeKristenComment

Since I worked today and then stayed in my pajamas afterwards, I sadly do not have a look to post. I haven’t revisited any products I’ve reviewed yet, and I think it’s something I’d like to do! So, I’m going to write about how much I STILL LOVE Urban Decay’s All-Nighter Setting Spray.

In my last post, I talked about how great this setting spray worked. My only complaints were that I got some black crap under my eyes from my eye makeup, but soon I figured out that I just needed to change my concealer. The magic of this setting spray is that it literally lowers the temperature of your makeup so it doesn’t melt.

To understand how this works, I need to talk about three separate occasions where I was amazed at how this shit worked. One day last week, I went to an amusement park with my tiny cousins. It was hot as all hell. I was constantly dabbing my forehead and upper lip with the back of my hand. I went on all types of rides, types that you think would make makeup fly off of your face and water rides where I was soaked from head to toe. So after all that sweating, wetness, and movement, you would think half my face would be on the ground. Nope. My makeup looked almost as good as it did when I left the house. My face makeup stayed on, I didn’t have a ton of crap under my eyes, and my lipgloss was still poppin’. I still thought, this can’t possibly real.

The next day, I went Pokémon hunting with my best friend. I was in all black. Pants and a flannel. I was SWEATING. Again, I was doing the cute dainty little dab thing. I got in the car expecting to look like a Hanukkah candle. My makeup was moving around a tad bit, but I dabbed my face with a towel, blasted the air conditioning, and everything looked exactly as it did before. I went through a ton of temperature changes, but my face bounced the hell back.

Then yesterday, when I was running around Manhattan in the 90 degree heat, I felt the need to dab again. This time, I was convinced that this spray would not work. I felt sweat dripping into my mouth. The corners of my eyes were getting sweaty. I knew I would look in the mirror and see the Pillsbury Doughboy staring back at me. Instead, I saw The Clunkster looking as put together as she did when she took her morning selfie.

WHAT IS THIS SORCERY??? AND IT’S CRUELTY-FREE??? I seriously can’t handle it. Even my mom is amazed. Everyone needs to go buy this damn setting spray right away because I actually cannot take all of this on my own.

As you can see, I can get a bit heated over my cruelty-free products, but that’s because I’m so amazed that these products can work so well without torturing animals! Top (similar). Overalls (no longer being sold by American Rag). Sneakers. Sunglasses (I have no clue where I got these I'm so sorry).

What do you wear when you're doing a ton of walking and it's a billion degrees out but you still wanna look cute for the MoMA? Overalls!

I bought these overalls like two years ago and I don't wear them very much. I always wear them with this really cute floral crop top, but never with anything else. I would love to experiment more with these. Maybe I will over the summer!

Overalls are the best because they're childish but actually really cute. I never have to worry about pulling my pants up! And even though I'm wearing a crop top, I don't have to suck it in because my belly is covered. There are pockets, too! The only downside is that you basically have to get naked when you pee.

I could've totally worn my red Converse to match my top, but I went with my white ones and I really liked the way it turned out. I kept my jewelry normal (now adding my Pokémon necklace, which looked super cool!) and my makeup light. I didn't do anything to my hair since I knew it would get even frizzier in the heat. I'm happy that I embraced my non-straightened hair this summer.

Last, but not least: sunglasses. I was planning on being cute and wearing my round glasses, but I chose my glitter ones last minute since I knew my adorbs little bestie would be wearing something more than I was. Sure enough, he wore glitter on his eyelids. We matched! The glasses gave this look that extra kick that it needed.

You'll be seeing more of these overalls on The Clunkster, so keep on reading!

Dark Side

Flannel (no longer being sold at Eddie Bauer). Jeans. Top (similar). Shoes (similar). Sunglasses (mine are a bit lighter).

You guys know how I love making complete 180s. That's what I did today! Today's look was girly and dark, but still fun. I went to the mall with my best friend (we got Pokémon friendship necklaces!!!), so I wanted to look cute for her! Lately, I've been feeling my dark side.

I started with my favorite crop top and put on my grey acid wash jeans, but I ended up changing into my black jeans since they were more high-waisted and they just looked better. I didn't want to leave it there, so I threw on my dad’s black flannel.

For some reason, these shoes were really calling to me today. I kind of regret wearing them since we did a lot of walking (that's what Pokémon Go does to you), but they looked adorable so I don't care. I wore these glasses to match them. I like how the brown is like a neutral pop of color.

I kept my makeup normal and put my hair in a very high top knot. I haven't worn one in forever, and my hair was gross today. It was so high, it hit the roof of my car. Oops. Jewelry was also normal (I added my necklace later!).

I would definitely wear this look again, but I'd love to experiment with different colors of shoes and sunglasses. Stay tuned, maybe you'll taste the rainbow soon.
